Leaves are falling.  Warm, humid days are giving way to crisp, cool nights.  There is no doubt that autumn is in full swing.  As I write this, we are just seven Fridays away from Christmas day!  I don’t know about you, but it seems to me this year has flown by.  I’m sure you are starting to plan your Thanksgiving dinners.  One of my favorite parts of my family’s meal is the pecan pie.  It’s my all time favorite dessert and, if you notice at the club meetings, it’s the one dessert I always treat myself to.   And speaking of pecans, our club is currently selling them as a fundraiser for our youth scholarship program.   Just let us know how many bags you want!!

The past few weeks, we have had some great programs.  We welcomed Union University and heard about their Edge program, which gives the learning disabled a chance to develop their skills while experiencing life as a college student.  Mike Johnson with Crimestoppers of Jackson talked to us about the importance of his organization in preventing crime in our town.  We also had a great silent auction to raise money for our club’s Hal Meredith Scholarship Foundation.  Finally, we had the tremendous opportunity to honor one of our fallen first responders, Chris Blankenship, with the Firefighter of the Year award.  Chris was an extremely dedicated member of hte Madison County Fire Department and an very deserving recipient.  It was a very moving day for me and our fellow club members.

Speaking of those who wear a uniform, we will be kicking off a new national inititave to raise money for homeless veterans on November 11th from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Mulligan’s.  This event will benefit the organization Veteran’s Matter, which gives money to vets for a down payment on a home.  Our goal as a club is to raise at least $2,400.

As always, thanks for your service to the club and please know how much I, along with our board, appreciates you.  I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving season.

Make it a great day!

Brad
